Eye contact.
My problem is that I am unable to directly look into people's eyes when I am trying to converse with them. Embarrassingly, I find my eyes tend to indirectly look at people's sexual parts, for example, breasts, chest etc. I have no real control over this. This condition occurs with whoever I am having a conversation with, i.e., men, women, young, old, work colleagues friends and relatives. I literally feel people getting uncomfortable while talking to me. I have suffered from this condition for the past 8 years. It has generally got worse over time. I have, however, suffered from anxiety/stress/worry since I was about 14 or so. I would very much like to treat this problem as it would enable me to socialize with people without fear.

I cannot help but imagine the kind of pressure you must have been putting on yourself while writing this and you have reached out, I see that your problem is  eyecontact which in short tells me a lot about the state of confidence that you are in for the past 8 years. Firstly in a counselling session, let me make you aware that how does it work. It seems to be social anxiety which might lead to non coherent communication. It also has tinge of psychosis. It can be well treated with one to one customised psychotherapy.

Hi, You should be proud of yourself for sharing your thoughts here.Obsessions and compulsions are mainly due to anxiety.Causes may be  due to childhood abuse, social anxiety,trauma etc . Forcing yourself to control your thoughts and activities can cause more damage.You need to seek professional help.

Hi Your concern is you are not able to look into a persons eye while talking. You tend to look elsewhere. You want to look into a persons eye while talking and you want to mingle with people without any fear. Your condition can be treated with counselling sessions. Do not worry counselling sessions will help you.

This maybe because your uncomforatable around people . While you’re uncomfortable around people, your mind is distracting itself from looking someone in the eye. Next time, try looking someone in the eye and see if you feel uncomforatable or even have a bad thought about them. Instead of having the thought, try and look else were. This is only to distract you from your own thoughts about people or feeling uncomforatable around people
