I am around 9 weeks pregnant. I have severe excessive salivation throughout the day. I cannot swallow my saliva because it immediately triggers vomiting, although I no longer have nausea or vomiting otherwise. I have been taking Doxikind at night for 5 days, but there is no improvement. Please advise what treatment is safe during pregnancy to manage this problem.
Excess saliva that's hard to swallow, called ptyalism, is a known early-pregnancy symptom linked to the same hormonal shift that causes nausea. It isn't dangerous on its own, though it's uncomfortable. Doxikind helps with nausea and vomiting, not ptyalism directly, which is likely why it hasn't helped yet.
Next Steps
Try sipping water often, sucking on a mint or tart candy, and spitting out extra saliva instead of swallowing it. Small, dry meals through the day help too. If it isn't easing up, mention it to your obstetrician, since a different anti-nausea approach may suit you better.
Health Tips
Please get checked the same day if vomiting returns, you can't keep fluids down, or you're passing very little urine.
