EXCESSIVE BLOOD LOSS DUE TO PERIODS

My fiancee is going through excessive blood loss and heavy cramps during her periods.. Right now her haemoglobin level is 7.8 . So whether she should go for blood transfusion or some sort of diet and medicines will help? Please reply Thank you
