Echogenic intracardiac focus
My wife is 18 week pregnant and in anaomly scan recently echogenic intracardiac focus is observed in heart. Is it something to worry about and any precautions that we should take?

If there is single intracardiac focus then generally a normal finding. It is seen in nearly 1 in every 5 pregnancies. Sometimes it may be associated with some genetic problems like Down syndrome. If you haven’t gone any blood test for Down syndrome and really worried then I will advise you to consult pediatrician/ medical geneticist with echo report and get Quad test for Down syndrome done. If mothers age is more than 35 then you should definately get Quad test done.
