Yes, duloxetine drug grouped under SNRI basically acts on serotonin and norepinephrine (Increase in norepinephrine being the culprit here) can increase blood pressure in some people. But this effect is more likely to occur at higher doses say 80-100mg chronic use; or in individuals with pre-existing hypertension or risk factors for cardiovascular issues.
Blood pressure increases are generally mild but may be significant in some individuals and needs to be watched if there is constant headaches worsening of anxiety etc on treatment.
Next Steps
If you’re concerned about blood pressure changes while taking duloxetine, it’s best to consult your healthcare provider. They may adjust your dose or consider alternative medications.
Health Tips
Regular BP monitoring is recommended, particularly during the first few weeks or after dose adjustments.
Hi ..Duloxetine, a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, is used for diabetic neuropathic pain and fibromyalgia as well as major depressive disorder. Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors may lead to increased blood pressure via their noradrenergic effects in addition to their cardiovascular side effects. Though theoretically this is possible.. However, it was also reported that the effect of duloxetine on BP is clinically negligible (<1-mmHg rise for both diastolic and systolic BP). Its better to rule out other causes of raised BP.
It can cause in some cases but there can be other reasons linked to increasing BP which needs to be evaluated
Next Steps
Previous Base line BP, Family history of hypertension
Health Tips
Rule out cardiovascular reasons/ get full profile of body tests done including ecg , rule out anxiety and other psychological causes for same
( consult Doctor/ ur psychiatrist)
