Dry skin problem

My skin gets too much dry.. I use Petroleum gel every day.. other wise its look so bad.. its started in the year 2012, its wasn't permanent.. it use to appear and go.. but from last 2 years its still there.. i thought its harmless as it wasn't growing or something... But now i am worried as its start appearing on other places.. like behind ears.. Please help me..
