Hello Right now, your baby is doing well — there are no signs of infection or nerve issues. But this small tract under the skin could later become a source of infection or a hidden cyst. A small planned surgery now is safer than waiting for complications later. Removal is usually simple and curative.
Next Steps
Done by pediatric surgeon or neurosurgeon Usually day-care or short hospital stay Minimal risk when done electively
Health Tips
Procedure is safe and preventive Most children recover very well Prevents future unexpected infections or neurological issues

Right now, there’s no urgent danger, but removal is advised to prevent infection in the future. It’s a straightforward procedure, and doing it early avoids unexpected problems later.

Even if the baby is asymptomatic and the tract appears small with no spinal connection, early surgical excision is usually recommended to prevent complications like infection or hidden cysts. Delaying can increase risks later, even if everything seems fine now.
