I have a baby of 12 days, born on 8th sep. She got admitted in hospital to get treated for jaundice on 13th and discharged on 15th. She is breast feed since starting, but when admitted in hospital docotr said my milk is not sufficient for baby and so jaundice increased and they gave formula milk too.. i am continuing the same now also.. but baby seems sleepy since birth.. for every feed i have to wake her up for every 2.5 hrs.. otherwise she will wake up by 4 hrs.. does that mean jaundice came back.. its said babies with jaundice sleep longer then usual babies.. we have regular check up after 10 days.. but bit worried about it.

Hi!
Newborn Babies sleep for upto 18-20 hours per day.
If your baby was born normal with normal birth weight then no need to worry about the jaundice.
The yellow pigment gets deposited under the skin and can be there for 2-3 weeks before completely resolving.
Usually, babies sleep for 2-3 hours after feeding.
Just keep monitoring the daily weight gain . If the baby is gaining approx 20- 30 grams /day for next 3 months then you need not worry.
Next Steps
Keep a note of urine output, if baby is passing urine for 4-6 times clear color then he is getting adequate milk.
Keep breast feeding .
Exclusive breast feeding till 6 months.
No honey/ ghutti etc.
start weaning breastfeeding after 6months of age, however, keep giving breast milk till 2 years of age to protect the child from infection and allergies later on in life.
Happy parenting!
Health Tips
If jaundice is increasing or motions are clay colored then report it to the pediatrician at the earliest.
