Difficulty staying asleep
Its been 3 days and I'm not able to sleep peacefully. I wake up in the middle of the night for no reason and I'm unable to go back to sleep. I eat my dinner before 9 pm and I usually go to sleep between 11.30 to 12.30. Before going to bed, I drink a glass of hot milk as well. I've tried exercising also. It is really disturbing when I'm unable to sleep. Please help.

Hello there! I understand how difficult it must be to not be able to sleep at night. There might be different reasons why you aren’t able to sleep at night, but the best way to find out is to consult a professional. A psychologist will be able to guide you to find out the causes of your concern and also help you to formulate a treatment plan that would work for you. There are different types of therapy and depending on the concern and need, your therapist will make a decision regarding the type of therapy required. Since exercise did not work out for you, here are some steps you could take to help sleep better: Keep regular sleep hours- Make sure to sleep and wake up around the same time everyday. This will ensure that you feel sleepy at around the same time everyday. Create a comfortable environment for sleeping - Make sure that your lights are dim, there is no loud background noise and also that you have a comfortable bed. Although this might not seem like a big deal, it contributes greatly to the quality of sleep. If you cannot sleep, get up and do something else until you feel sleepy. Try to involve in activities like reading that would not require a lot of physical exertion. Try to relax before sleeping - Whether it is pampering yourself in a long bath or practising mindfulness for fifteen minutes, making sure that you go to bed relaxed is extremely important. Try journaling - Writing down what worries you can be a great way to go to bed stress free. It helps you vent and go to sleep with a clear head. You’ll get through this! Sleep tight!

Dear human, thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns, it’s not always easy to share. It must have been difficult for you to handle this and I appreciate your effort to reach out for help. Understanding your current concerns it sounds like your loss of sleep or not being able to achieve a healthy sleep can be due to many reasons. People commonly experience loss of sleep with some pressing issue that could be lingering at the back of their mind, guilt, stress from work or in personal life, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, etc. As there isn’t sufficient information here to identify any thinking patterns, we could get on a session and discuss further. But there are a few things you could do in the meanwhile- 1. One of the easiest and efficient ways of keeping a track of your thoughts is to keep a journal handy and put the thoughts down as is, whenever you feel the need and at least once every day. 2. Since you are already exercising, continue doing that. Along with that, you could also meditate. Meditation before sleeping can help you relax, declutter your mind and ultimately sleep better. 3. Eat good food, whatever seems to pleasure you. At this point, it’s important that you take care of your basic needs first and eventually proceed to other self-care exercises. 4. You could also listen to an audiobook, a podcast of your liking or relaxing music with soothing tunes when you are ready for bed and let it continue even if you pass out.

Sometimes it happens... every individual face this situation but it wont last longer... Say "Yes" to sleep Don't argue with it, don't get annoy, don't get frustrate as it is not listening to you.... wait and watch until it comes... eventually it has to come.. Be prepared for it. Lie down completely, loosen  your body muscles one by one, watch breadth, ignore this world. let the thoughts come and go don' t interfere. When you mind starts ignoring the worldly thoughts, slowly gradually sleep happens...
