Diet and food habits
Good Day Doctor, Our daughter is 9 months old, since then we have been hearing a lot with regards to her food habitual.Family has been insisting on introduction of Non Veg(Egg, Chicken & Mutton Soups) Ghee, Salt , Sugar etc. We hve been advised by our Paediatrician thts Sugar ,Salt, Non Veg can be introduced only after the baby completes 1 year. Currently she is fed plain Idly for Breakfast, rice+dhal+ veg for lunch , millets (varagu/samai/thinai with some vegetable ) for snack alternatively and homemade cerelac for dinner, steamed banana r steamed apple. Recently we consulted a paediatrician who advised us to start feeding our baby everything tht we eat, especially cholestrol rich food as it is required for the baby's brain development. Please advise if we can introduce salt ,sugar, non veg and other home prepared food like sambhar , chutney , coconut oil etc.

baby can be fed from the family pot i.e. the food family eats. however make food consistency to the likes of baby since the teeth are not well developed. as far as poultry feeds is concerned u can introduce cow milk after 12months and egg after 14month of age bcz of risk of allergy. however other items in the form of stew or mashed meat can also be given. do make the food dense: meaning rich in high energy like ghee, edible oil, jaggery and nuts are few examples for high density food. now to the query of salt and sugar, donot add extra salt or sugar to the baby food. it might be extra burden on body system to metabolise it.
Next Steps
till one year 1g salt per day is adequate avoid refined sugar in general
Health Tips
do consult pediatrician further on feeding habits
