Ya it is possible to take decision and diagnose with OPG. By the way, both OPG and IOPA are radiographs. One is localised and the other one is full mouth. So doesn't make any major difference in most of the cases to diagnise and decide treatment for the Dentist.
Experience dentists can decide jus by examining and Ur history, even without a radiograph.
Next Steps
don't delay in getting Ur rct done. it is a very simple procedure Nd u won't have any difficulty as it will be done after giving local anaesthesia
It is possible for a dentist to go for Root Canal Treatment with only OPG as diagnostic aid. Depending on the condition such as decay, pulp and periodontal chamber condition, any pathology (if present) at the tip of the roots, an OPG will be enough to take a decision to start RCT. Even some asymptotic conditions will require RCT.
Next Steps
Make sure to ask why exactly is RCT is needed.
