Hi Doctors, It it true that someone gets diabetes due to excess of eating of sugar? One of our family member claims that she got diabetes due to excess of having tea. Imran

No. It is usually genitically transmitted. In very obese persons excessive consumption of sugars may lead to Diabetis.

Excessive consumption of sugary food and carbohydrate increases fat accumulation. These fat pads over body change the receptors inside and cause insulin resistance over time to cause type 2 diabetes mellitus. Yes its linked to genetics as well. But unhealthy lifestyle is more than diet.
