Dengue post covid. Platlet count 19000
My uncle tested positive for corona on 21st November. And after 17 days he got infected with dengue. His platlet count right now is 19000 and he has diabetes too. Does he need platlet transfusion?

A very good day to you. In dengue platelet transfusion is indicated in two situations - if platelet count is less than 10000 - if platelet count is less than 20000 but the patient is bleeding from any spot ie mucous membrane like gums or bleeding while urinating Since platelet count is 19000 and hopefully he isn't bleeding from any area , the count can be repeated the following day to see the change.
Next Steps
Repeat platelet count the following day. Take a call based on that report according to the above guidelines

Are you sure he was tested positive for Dengue as platelets also fall with viral infections, repeat his Platelets, get tested for Dengue, and also ask if he has any bleeding gums, or nasal bleeds or bleeding while passing stools or dark urine, if any of the above, platelet transfusion advised for sure,, but first also try getting  to know if it's dengue or post covid viral load  parallely
