Hello Doctor,
I am 21 years old. My last proper period was from 13th to 17th August 2026. Since then, I haven't had a proper menstrual period.
My previous period dates were:
- May 18–22
- , June 8–12
- , july 5–9
- , August 13–17
. In September, I experienced pink spotting but my actual period never started. The same thing happened again around October 1.
I stopped taking emergency contraceptive pills in March 2026. I had previously taken Divery when my periods were delayed that was in the month of March .
I don't have noticeable symptoms like weight gain, acne, excessive facial hair or abdominal pain.
I would like to understand why my periods are delayed, whether this could be due to hormonal imbalance?
Spotting instead of a full period, especially with your history of taking emergency contraceptive pills, means a pregnancy test is the first thing to rule out. Beyond that, delayed cycles without weight gain, acne or excess hair can still come from a thyroid or prolactin imbalance, not only PCOS, so a hormonal cause is still very possible even without those symptoms.
Next Steps
Take a home pregnancy test if you haven't already. If it's negative, ask your gynaecologist for a thyroid, prolactin and pelvic ultrasound workup to find the actual cause.
Health Tips
See a doctor sooner if the spotting turns heavier or you develop pelvic pain.
