Why government is continously extending the interval for covisheild second doze. Can someone please suggest what will be a good interval to have for 1st and 2nd doze for covishield.

Vaccine science is continuously evolving based on the new data and studies. Covaxin is taken at 4 week interval. Covishield at 12 week interval. Covishield studies in United Kingdom have found that first dose of vaccine is effective (above threshold) for 12 weeks and needs to be boosted (by 2nd dose) after this. The govt however may increase the gap to more than 12 weeks ( vaccine shortage) and therefore give atleast the 1st dose to the remaining people(age 18- 44 years)who haven't got any vaccine at all.

According to gov guidelines the duration between 2 doses should be 12-16 weeks. Study revealed the gap helps in boosting immunity against the virus
