Continuous Discharge in Eye of New born
Hi, My 6 days old daughter is witnessing continuous discharge in her right eye, since her birth. When awake, she opens her both eyes. But, in her right eye, there is some stickyness, which we often clean with wet cotton. Is this normal or is there something wrong? She was born in 39th week of pregnancy and her birth weight was 2.25 kgs. It was an IUGR Case. Please guide. Thanks

Hello mam..her tear drainage canal seems to be closed thats why watering is there.. Usually after birth,it opens but in case this doesn't happen it needs massage. In case there is discharge, it needs eye drops, otherwise massage is only treatment. If above symptoms are associated with swelling or redness or pain, please visit ophthalmologist.
Next Steps
Should visit paediatric ophthalmologist to understand the problem and further treatment Or video consultation can be done to show proper way of massage. Iksha Eye Care, Andheri west, Mumbai
Health Tips
Keep eyes clean. Use cotton balls and dip it in clean water and then boil water to make cotton balls sterile. Allow it to cool then clean her eyes. Don't apply kajal

She appears to suffer from nasolacrimal duct blockage.. It requires massage and certain eye drops depending on stickiness.. But it's better to meet paediatric ophthalmologist and get thorough check up

She might be having an NLD block, it's better you take her to an eye clinic and show her  eyes. They can decide if swab is required or not.. and can also explain in detail how to massage for her eyes.
Next Steps
There is a type of sac massage that can be done to relieve this block. But it has to be done in the right way.
