Constipation
Hi Doctor, This is about my son who is 9 yr old. Few days back he was having hard and painful stool with blood droplets on it. I mean after passing stool he was bleeding. I consulted a doctor and doctor's advice was duphalac syrup 5ml 3times a day for 3 days and warm water, After 3days I stopped the medicine, constipation started. Again for one day I continued syrup then the stool was normal. From last 3days he's going stool every alternative Day. Should I continue syrup?

Yes. Continue and infact increase it to 10 ml which will be the better dose....do not stop the medicine until a regular toilet pattern is established. Reduce times from 3 to 2 to 1 time a day...but don't suddenly stop the DUPHALAC syrup. Improve the Water intake Toiletting pattern by encouragement And Also allow variety of foods All the very best!

Yes you should continue the syp for at least 15 days. If the stool becomes soft or gets loose make it twice daily. Give warm sitz bath daily for 2 times for 5-10 minutes. Apply oint sucral ano if pain persists. Show the child if everything is ok after 15 days for evaluation of cause of constipation
Next Steps
we would investigate about the cause of constipation whether dietary or anything else once he is asymptomatic
Health Tips
look for bleed, pain and severe constipation. if it conrinue better show as early as possible.
