Constipation and psychiatry
I suffer from chronic constipation since childhood. No amount of fibre, exercise has helped me. The thing is i have regular motions but only the first part of the stools is hard leading to recurrent anal fissures. I have visited various gastro and they have not been able to help. My problem always gets alleviated during periods of stress. Can pyschaitric doctors help?

Stress can play a role in the bowel movements. Since you say it aggravates during stress, you can try taking some medication to prevent the constipation. For detailed evaluation pls take a private consultation

You could be suffering from FGID - functional gastrointestinal d/o. However it will require a more detailed history and evaluation to understand the issue, kindly visit a psychiatrist

Do you know the cause of your constipation? Has this been assessed and investigated by a specialist? One of the common causes of constipation can be IBS (though it can also cause diarrhoea in some). IBS is linked to anxiety and stress and thus antidepressant medication can be useful. However, try non-medicinal options first, such as yogurt based drinks, avoiding excessive tea, coffee and fizzy drinks. Regular exercise, including walk and yoga can also be helpful.
Next Steps
Try understand the cause of your constipation. Make a dietary intake and mood diary.
Health Tips
regular exercise can help release endorphins, which can help reduce stress levels Dr N Bhandari MSc Clinical Neuropsychiatry (Uni Birmingham, UK); MRCPsych (UK); MBBS Consultant Psychiatrist
