Clarification on Periods
My daughter attained puberty on September 4th and it lasted for 2 days. She got her next period on 23 September and lasted for 9 days and next got her 3 periods on 19th October and it is still continuing. Though it is not heavy sometimes after the 4th day it was like no bleeding sometimes then it starts again but not heavy. Is it fine. She is 12 year old. Can someone reply to this query?

Initially cycles may vary from 20-45 days and flow can range from 2-7 days and this is mainly due to anovulatory cycles particularly in the first postmenarcheal year. So you can be reassured. Maintain menstrual calendar and give her whole balanced diet mainly iron rich foods and support. Evaluation is required when abnormal menstrual function persists more than 1 year or is associated with other signs like hirsutism etc.

Irregular cycles like this are very common in the first one to two years after your first period, since your body is still settling into a regular ovulation pattern, so the on-and-off light bleeding you're describing isn't unusual for your age. A period that keeps going this long, especially nine days or more each time, is worth getting checked rather than just watching it continue.
Next Steps
Keep a simple diary of start and stop dates and how heavy the flow is, which helps a doctor assess the pattern properly. Please see a gynaecologist, ideally one experienced with adolescents, for an examination and a blood test to check you aren't becoming anaemic from the prolonged bleeding.
Health Tips
Get checked sooner if the bleeding becomes heavy, you feel dizzy or very tired, or it doesn't stop within the next few days.
