CKD patient can eat nuts?
Hi. My father is a CKD patient and he is currently on alternate day Dialysis. He still eats 8-10 raw almonds everyday. Is eating almonds good or harmful for CKD patients? Also please confirm if eating black grapes is good or bad for him. Thanks.

Eating 8-10 almonds will be neither good nor bad for him. It amounts to maximum of 70-80 milligrams of potassium which is well within what he is allowed as a dialysis patient. Also black grapes in moderation should not be a big source of potassium and hence not harmful. What dialysis patients need is lots of protein which is found in egg white, meat, pulses, paneer, etc. Nuts provide proteins but one cannot eat too much of them. Fruits are not good sources of proteins.
