Chronic PPI intake has its own side effects.  You can take Famotidine instead and later taper slowly ( making it alternate day and so on). You can take for 4 to 6 weeks and later make SOS( Whenever required) Please focus on lifestyle modifications as it is not possible  to continue medications for long time at this age.
Next Steps
Regular food intake,  Avoid skipping meals, good sleep, less stress, will reduce acid reflux and sensitivity. Other precipitating factors include obesity, smoking and intake of pain  killers.
