My father is 56 years old government employee.. he is diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma 3 months ago.. we have started chemotherapy but it's not having much effect .. so is surgery possible for this? Can we go for surgery? Please guide us ..

Operability of any cancer depends on its STAGE.
Some times because the tumor has infiltrated (local spread) into nearby structures it is not possible to safely operate.
Other times due to distant spread (metastasis) , surgery doesn't carry a chance for cure.

Surgery is the mainstay of curative treatment in cholangiocarcinoma. Whether Surgery is feasible or not, depends upon nearby structures involvement and extent of disease. Better to meet a Surgical Oncologist with patient and all relevant imaging for deciding regarding feasibility of Surgery
