Career help
I am very interested in having a career in psychiatry, but I was just wondering if I would be able to counsel and provide therapy to my patients (similar to a psychologist)? I know I will have med appointments but may I perform psychotherapy with my patients and talk with them as well? Also my question is in regards to working in a hospital, not private practice (as I know in a private practice you have more freedom).

yes general counseling and psychotherapy are taught in the MD or DNB programs related to psychiatry. You can definitely apply general counseling techniques.
