Bp range 78/140
Hello. Is 78/140 a normal bp or is it on a higher side. Does my father need any consultation or medication? P.s: he was a bit unwell when this reading was taken by the Dr(common cold)

Hi. Systolic BP (the higher one) more than 140 and diatolic BP (the lower one) more than 90 are not normal. If both or even one of them is there persistently needs evaluation to see if person has BP issues and needs medications
Next Steps
Since you mentioned it is only one value which was high and that too your father was unwell that time, better to monitor his BP over next few days, in rested comfortable environment. if majority of values are more than or equal to 140 and/or 90 he may require medication
Health Tips
Seek consultation for proper history and to plan evaluation

It is borderline for his age, depends if there are any comorbidities. Lifestyle modifications and few tests should be done before starting medications
