Body shaking while awaking from sleep
Respected Dr., From last 4 - 5 months, i am noticing that whenever i take a nap or sleep at night whenever i wake up my body starts shaking and i feel like i will fall. I checked my blood sugar level and it was normal. I dont have thyroid. But from past 2 - 3 months i am having a headache that when i take pain killers it resolves but again after that it starts to hurt. Please tell me what is going on and should i see a dr? Thanking you in advance.

Dear friend , i think it because of your low blood pressure. Please do check your blood pressure regularly. Drink plenty of water. Don't wake up from bed instantly, just wait for 1-2 min and then go out of bed. Painkiller for headache gives relief for sometime but it will not be the permanent solution. Please consult with me with your suitable time with all your reports and previous treatment history. Don't worry you will be better again.

Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician. I understand your concern. ➡️ Shaking on waking up from sleep and recurrent headaches can be due to multiple causes — ranging from sleep-related problems, anxiety, inner ear balance issues, to less commonly neurological problems. The fact that sugar and thyroid are normal is reassuring, but persistent headaches need proper evaluation. General Advice: Maintain regular sleep and wake timings, avoid late nights. Stay hydrated and avoid excessive caffeine or alcohol. Do relaxation breathing before sleep to reduce anxiety-related tremors. What to monitor: Frequency, duration, and severity of headaches. Any associated nausea, vision changes, or imbalance. Whether shaking is only on waking or also happens during the day. Medicines: You may take a mild pain reliever like paracetamol for headache when needed. Avoid overuse of painkillers, as they can cause rebound headaches. When to consult doctor immediately: Severe or sudden-onset headache. Headache associated with vomiting, vision loss, weakness, or imbalance. Persistent shaking, dizziness, or fainting spells. Since your symptoms have lasted for months, I strongly recommend a neurologist consultation and basic tests (like MRI brain, vitamin B12, Vitamin D, and blood pressure monitoring) to find the cause and treat it properly. You can connect with me directly on Practo or reach me on WhatsApp (85271646 seven seven) for a more personalized consultation. Best regards, Dr. Romain Rajan General Physician

1. Tab. Naproxen 250 mg + Domperidone – 1 tab BD after food × 5 days (for headache relief). 2. Tab. Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin 1500 mcg) – 1 OD × 3 months. 3. Tab. Vitamin D3 60,000 IU – 1 weekly × 8 weeks, then maintenance 1,000 IU OD. 4. Tab. B-Complex with Folic acid – 1 OD × 2 months. 5. If anxiety/poor sleep → Tab. Clonazepam 0.25 mg HS × 5 nights (only under doctor’s advice). Advice: • Adequate hydration, regular sleep schedule. • Limit caffeine & screen time before bed. • Neurologist consultation advised → rule out migraine, seizure, or other neurological causes. • MRI Brain + Vitamin B12/D3 levels if not done. ⸻ Since symptoms are chronic (4–5 months) with headache, she must see a neurologist/physician for further evaluation.

If you are  overweight/obese or has other sleep-related symptoms (loud snoring, daytime sleepiness), can consult me for evaluation. Otherwise, for normal weight or if neurological symptoms predominate, consult a neurologist for further evaluation of tremors, seizures, or headache causes.
