Blood tests for abortion
We had sex two weeks ago, I had popped 2 ipills during 2 days to avoid pregnancy. We had sex again after a day but he withdrew before ejaculation. My periods are delayed by one week and tested for pregnancy using home kit it came positive. We went to gynaecologist, she didnot do any sonography but asked us for the blood test. Is blood test really necessary in abortion? Since we do not want to end up wasting time in getting abortion thus were curious if doctor is wasting our money and time.

Blood test would be required to confirm pregnancy. Your gynae did not advise sonography as most likely it is too early to show anything. Her thinking might be to first confirm pregnancy. If your urine test was falsely positive.. Blood test can determine accurately if you are pregnant or not. If blood test is negative.. there is no need for sonography. If blood test is positive, then she can either through examination or by pelvic sonography, confirm the location of pregnancy and then proceed for abortion. Maybe she was trying to save you the cost of pelvic sonography. You can directly ask the same question to her also. Her response will help you in developing trust in her.

Hi Thanks for contacting Practo. The home UPT test is not accurate always, that's the reason your doctor said to get a blood test which is called HCG test which is accurate test to confirm pregnancy. Once that confirmed your doctor and you can plan it accordingly whether to go for abortion or not. Sonography doesn't detect pregnancy so early as it's only 1 week, that's why get the blood test done to confirm it first.
Next Steps
Get HCG blood test done.
