Blood Pressure 170/100
Hi There, My mother BP shoot up to 170/100, went to doctor and she advised taking "telma 40 mg" once in a day. It is already 5th day but still BP didnt wnet down. Do i need to visit doctor again to change medication or it will take time for current medicine to effect. Thanks

TX – Approach: Stage 1: HCTZ 12.5 to 50 mg orally once daily, OR Benazepril 10-40 mg orally once daily (Diabetic patient, inc MAU), OR Metoprolol 50 mg orally (regular-release) twice daily (if HR is high), OR Amlodipine 2.5 mg PO QD (older patient, PVD, CAD). Stage 2: Hydrochlorothiazide : 12.5 to 50 mg orally once daily, and Benazepril : 10-40 mg orally once daily OR Benazepril : 10-40 mg orally once daily, and Metoprolol : 50 mg orally (regular-release) twice daily OR Hydrochlorothiazide : 12.5 to 50 mg orally once daily, and Metoprolol : 50 mg orally (regular-release) twice daily initially OR Benazepril : 10-40 mg orally once daily, and Amlodipine 2.5 mg PO QD

bp management docterine says abrupt decrease in bp cause vital organ damage and cause reperfusion injury. so its step wise decrease frst thing hv patience..trust ur doctor it takes our body sm time to get adjusted to a drug.. take ur drug on time..keep bp monitoring if symptoms persists beyond a week consult ur doctor he might change drug or modify dosages to get desired effect. well in case of any sort of emergency cosult him immediately.
