After recovery from covid, upto 6 to 8 weeks a person is susceptible for mucormycosis (black fungus) infection. Patient is at risk if 1. Been given steroids for a long time 2. Uncontrolled / high blood sugars 3. Immunocomprimised. 4. Had been on oxygen support for a prolonged time. Early symptoms: Nasal stuffiness, nasal discharge, ulcers in nasal mucosa, one sided headache, eye related complaints like protrusion of eye, double vision, eye pain, difficulty in eye movements, sudden low vision. Fungal spores are present everywhere. Maintain home environment hygiene. Avoid exposure to soil, dust. Avoid excess/ prolonged steam inhalation. Keep sugars under check. Follow a nutritious diet. If any of the above symptoms are present/ in doubt kindly visit ent/eye specialist as soon possible.
