Bipolar or depression
21yr/F, final yr mbbs student, i myself realized a sudden drastic change in my behavior, change in sleep pattern, insomnia,eating, irritability, social isolation, loss of interest in everything. first lost interest in academics but now not even interested in any sort of entertainment. this has been present for the past 1 or 2 yrs, im not sure. first it was on and off, i would isolate myself in a dark room for a few days and then be normal but recently it lasted 2 weeks. im concerned

Thank you for asking. I can understand the distress you are through. Your complaints are well suggestiive of a depression like condition. You need to understand it may happen to anyone, and at times, there may not be any obvious stressor known. Although, external stress in an important factor, however certain hormonal changes esp. in females does predispose for depression. You must consider visiting a psychiatrist as he can conduct a detailed interview and establish a diagnosis. In case it is a depression, with suitable medication and treatment it can be cured.
