Big Problem
Hello Doctor, I had taken Fluoxetine (Flunil 40 mg) for 8 months, but due to itching I switched to Escitalopram 5 mg for 2 months as advised by a government doctor, and then Escitalopram 10 mg for 5 months. Now I am taking Fludac 60 mg. I wanted to confirm: - Was my treatment continuous, or is the 5 mg phase considered inadequate or like a gap? - Will this dose reduction in between affect my OCD recovery? Please advise. Thank you.

If you were symptom free it won't be considered a gap. Although risk benefit is considered so if you had side effects on fluoxetine then it was needed to changed it to escitalopram. Although again fluoxetine was started and on a higher dose. That means the itching was not because of fluoxetine. It might delay your recovery but OCD has a waxing and waning course by itself also so if you didn't have any symptoms during the escitalopram phase. It won't really affect your recovery. More than medication only, medication plus therapy works great for OCD. I provide online consultation and therapy support. Consult if you need second opinion.

OCD has waxing and waning course, symptoms can increase intermittently even over medication so if your symptoms were controlled over 5 mg escitalopram also there is nothing to worry about this. If you are maintaining well over 60 mg fluoxetine now you can continue the same for now but if not your treatment needs modification.
Next Steps
For long term management of OCD you need proper assessment and management from a good psychiatrist, if you want assistance from me, you can whatsapp over eight one seven one eight one five six three six.

It wont be considered as a gap and it wont affect your recovery. It may be considered inadequate treatment if your symptoms were not under control when you were taking 5 mg. Also consider therapy for your ocd. It works similar to drugs and together they may have higher effect.
