Behaviour changes and aggression
Hi, My aunt is going through some serious changes in her personality. She was a very capable independent women but for the last few years her behaviour and mental and emotional health has declined considerably. She is always confused, she can't concentrate, she always mumbles and speak totally out of context. She can't follow instructions properly for eg if we ask her for a glass of water she will walk back and forth kitchen and sometimes if we have to remind her again. Her husband is Physically challenged so she was taking care of him. Now She  is behaving aggressively to him also. She have severe mood swings. It's like she is a whole different person now she is apathetic . It's like is mentally retarded (sorry to use the word ) We are very confused which doctor to consult ? Is this dementia? But her memory seems ok. But I think she have issues with prossessing information. Please advise.

Hi... Please consult a good Psychiatrist. Some important details are missing in your query to make an evaluation of your aunts condition. But certainly it is of Psychiatric nature. Questions: 1. What is her age? 2. Since how many years she has been taking care      of her husband alone? 3. How was she managing her and her husband's      financial condition? Was it a big stressor for      her? 4. Does her condition gradually deteriorated or she     suddenly developed her presenting issues —     apathy, confusion, forgetfulness, aggression,     mood swings, etc.
Next Steps
Consult a Psychiatrist right now for proper Diagnosis and Medication. Consult a Psychologist later for Counselling.
