Back pain due to Jerk
Hiii...my husband is 38 years old...his weight is 94 kg...My husband has been having back pain because of a sudden jerk in his back. The doctor has prescribed medicine for seven days. Today, when he was lying down, I noticed that his lower back looked slightly inward. I have also shared a photo. Could you please tell me if this is normal or if it could be a reason for his back pain?

The slight inward curve seen in the photo is most likely the normal lumbar lordosis and soft-tissue contour, which can appear more prominent while lying down. It is unlikely to be the cause of his sudden pain. After a sudden jerk, the commonest cause is a muscle or ligament strain. A photo alone cannot accurately assess spinal alignment, but there is no obvious swelling or major deformity visible here. He should continue the prescribed medicines, use a warm compress for 15–20 minutes, walk gently, and temporarily avoid heavy lifting, repeated bending and prolonged bed rest. Imaging is usually unnecessary initially when there are no warning symptoms.
Health Tips
Seek urgent consultation if he develops leg weakness, numbness around the groin, loss of bladder or bowel control, fever, severe worsening pain, or difficulty walking. If the pain is not improving after the prescribed seven-day treatment, he should be examined again by an orthopaedic doctor.

The photograph does not show any obvious abnormality. The slight inward curve of the lower back is usually a normal lumbar lordosis and is unlikely to be the cause of his recent back pain. Based on the history of a sudden jerk, the pain is more likely due to a muscle or ligament strain. If his symptoms improve with the prescribed treatment over the next few days, it is reassuring.
Next Steps
He should complete the prescribed medications, avoid bending, twisting, lifting heavy weights, and prolonged sitting for a few days. If the pain persists beyond 1–2 weeks, becomes severe, or is associated with pain radiating to the legs, numbness, weakness, or bladder/bowel symptoms, he should consult an Orthopaedic Surgeon for examination and may require an X-ray or MRI based on clinical findings. You can also book an online consultation with me for a detailed assessment.
Health Tips
Apply a hot fomentation for 15–20 minutes, 3–4 times a day, maintain good posture, and gradually start back-strengthening exercises only after the acute pain settles. Seek urgent medical attention if he develops progressive leg weakness, loss of bladder or bowel control, or severe pain after significant trauma.
