Baby skin darkening day by day
My baby girl is 10 months old. Her skin color become darken day by days. I thought it's set in 7 months.. that time her skin color was bright but now her skin color is darkening. I completely understand that skin color is depending on race and genes, but her color is dark than both of us.. She is on iron , calcium and vitamin D medicine and taking proper food and maintaining hygiene. My question is what to do to make her brighter skin tone.

Hello. If possible please share a picture of the child in comparison to the time when she was born. In usual cases it’s not a matter of concern as the texture of skin is subject to change as they grow. Newborns often look fair at birth with skin that sometimes has a pinkish tone. The pink tint comes from the red blood vessels which show through your newborn's thin skin. Most parents assume that this is their baby's actual skin colour. But a newborn's skin darkens as they grow. Their natural complexion sets in usually around 3 months of age; sometimes subject to changes till 8months of age. So it's normal for your baby's complexion to change a bit on it's own at first. Skin colour changes can be due to many other reasons: 1. Changes in weather 2. Dryness of skin 3. Increased exposure to sun 4. Increased Iron 5. Heart diseases 6. Jaundice and its treatment Firstly my advice would be to consult your paediatrician to rule out any pathological cause. Get an ECHO done if required. Your baby's skin colour, whether dark or fair, is determined by her genes at the time of conception. Nothing you did during pregnancy or do now will change your baby's natural complexion. Try not to put your preference of skin colour onto your baby. 3 things to keep away from: 1. Home made ubtans (carry a risk of bacterial infections) 2. Talcum powder (causes skin dryness 3. Fairness cream (babies have very sensitive skin)
