I understand your predicament and would like to offer a few suggestions that can help you address it. The mind - the very nature of it is to keep oscillating between the past and the future. Hence, you will either have thoughts about something that happened in the past ( including the recent past ) and something you imagine might happen in the future. Anxiety is the term we generally use to refer to having/experiencing frequent thoughts about the future. Regarding thoughts, whatever you focus on, grows. When you focus on a certain thought, identify with it, keep entertaining it - your brain will interpret it as that thought is useful or important to you and hence such thoughts will increase in frequency. But when you try to fight/resist/control such thoughts, you are giving them more power. Hence, what you can do is, recognize that such thoughts come to you because of past experiences and old habits of thinking. When you experience them, learn to observe them without judgement like clouds passing in the sky. Gradually, with practice, they will reduce in frequency and the impact they have over you will lessen. A simple trick is to bring your focus to your breath whenever you feel overwhelmed and take a few relaxing breaths. Externally, ask yourself if there is something that needs to be addressed - whether at home or college/work place/relationships. You can overcome this and get back on track. Take care.
