Anger. Depression. Alcohol.
My dad is prone to extreme bouts of anger, that typically get fuelled when he is drinking. When in such a state, he brings up issues from two decades ago against my mums family, which he is unable to get over. He is afraid of dying as well and has been since his father died at 50. He sometimes goes into severe depression but at other times he is very happy. When angry he breaks things or locks himself in a room or just keeps drinking, but the next day he behaves like nothing happened. He is also able to give up drinking for weeks and months if he wants to, so drinking I think is only symptom and not the main problem. He also had a quadruple bypass a year ago and was even more depressed most that.
