Wisdom tooth

Wisdom tooth didn't grow properly and is slanted and more than half chipped. Gives tooth ache. Can I go directly to a dentist and extract it or it needs an inspection before extraction. Can inspection and extraction be done at the same time or day?

Hi. Wisdom tooth is one of the most common tooth giving this problem. Because of tilting in your case,  it is not very cleanable resulting in cavity and hence the breaking or chipping. If there is no active infection, inspection and extraction can be done in same day. While if infected it is fine under antibiotic cover

The tooth condition and position that you mentioned indicated difficulty in restoration of that tooth. Kindly, go for extraction. It may be extracted on the same day itself following some precautions.

Please get a check up done first. As per your description for tooth condition it seems you need disimpaction surgery for wisdom tooth removal. For which you need to plan a day before. You may need to take one day for rest as swelling in jaw may occur after surgery. Please visit an oral surgeon for the procedure to be performed.

He might advise you some investigations in your first visit for eg he might advise an OPG to assess the difficulty level, and conditions around your wisdom tooth. In the subsequent visit he might extract the tooth surgically or non surgically depending on the situation.

Extraction is the only solution. Please get it done ASAP but with proper x-ray and under an Oral Surgeon only. www.smilestudio.co.in

After the inspection the dentist will decide whether he can extract it immediately or it has to be removed surgically. In that case he will schedule an appointment for you & it will be done after an xray & some blood tests also. So best way for you to do is to visit the dentist as soon as possible.

Hello, You probably need to visit an Oral Surgeon, who would probably put you on an coarse of antibiotics/analgesics if the tooth is infected and then schedule you for an Impaction surgery once you have started your antibiotic.Dont delay. Regards Dr Suman Makam Dental Arts Bangalore

wisdom tooth is a vestigial tooth which has more disadvantages than advantages when present in the mouth.it should be removed even if it doesn't have a decay or toothache. the silent problems associated with them are far more troublesome than the toothaches. can be removed same day or can be a planned removal.

Wisdom teeth are usually extracted surgically.  It is always better to have a specialist oral & maxillofacial surgeon do it.  Find a good maxillofacial surgeon and get it removed asap.  Or ask your dentist to call in a specialist to do it. Inspection and extraction can be done the same day depending on your medical condition and availability of a surgeon.
