I hope your recovery from the wisdom tooth extraction is going smoothly.
Next Steps
Hereâs some guidance on when you can return to your normal diet, including eating solids and crunchy foods: Initial Healing Period: For the first 24-48 hours after your extraction, stick to a diet of soft foods and liquids. This helps minimize discomfort and reduces the risk of disrupting the blood clot forming in the socket. Gradual Introduction of Foods: Days 3-7: Continue with soft foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes, smoothies, soup (cooled to lukewarm), and scrambled eggs. Avoid using straws, as the suction can dislodge the clot. After the First Week: You can start introducing slightly firmer foods, such as pasta, soft-cooked vegetables, and soft meats like chicken or fish. Returning to a Normal Diet: 2 Weeks Post-Surgery: Most patients can start reintroducing more solid foods, but itâs important to chew on the opposite side of the extraction site if possible. Avoid very crunchy, hard, or sticky foods that can irritate the healing area or get stuck in the extraction site. 4-6 Weeks: By this time, you should be able to resume your normal diet, including crunchy foods, provided your healing is on track and you experience no discomfort. Monitor for Complications: Keep an eye out for signs of complications such as prolonged pain, swelling, or any signs of infection. If you experience these, contact our office immediately.
