You are 31, BMI 17, trying to conceive, eating well but still not gaining — this usually means your body is **not absorbing enough**, your metabolism is high, or your meal pattern is not matching your body’s needs. This is common in women who lose weight easily when they get sick. Your BMI is low and because you lose weight very quickly, it shows your body is not able to store enough energy. Even if you eat healthy foods, you may not be eating enough calories, proteins and healthy fats throughout the day. For women who are trying to conceive, maintaining a healthy BMI is important for hormones, ovulation and a healthy pregnancy. Focus on eating every 2 to 3 hours, add calorie-dense foods like nuts, peanut butter, curd, ghee, banana, milk shakes and paneer, and do not skip meals. Sometimes hidden issues like thyroid, vitamin D deficiency or low B12 can also prevent weight gain, so it is important to check them. For a personalised plan that fits your routine and helps healthy weight gain before pregnancy, please consult me for a better solution.

When weight gain is difficult despite eating well, it often indicates that your calorie intake or absorption may not be adequate, or there could be underlying metabolic or hormonal factors. Here are a few key steps to help: 1. Eat calorie-dense, nutrient-rich meals: Include 5–6 small meals daily with foods like nuts, seeds, nut butters, avocados, ghee, milk, paneer, banana, dates, sweet potatoes, and whole grains. 2. Add healthy fats: A spoon of ghee or nut butter with each meal helps increase calories in a healthy way. 3. Include protein in every meal: Add lentils, curd, milk, eggs (if you eat), paneer, or tofu to improve muscle gain. 4. Focus on gut health: Frequent cold or poor weight retention could also relate to low immunity or gut imbalance. Include probiotic foods like curd, fermented kanji, or buttermilk daily. 5. Avoid skipping meals and long fasting gaps. 6. Check your health parameters: Get your thyroid profile, vitamin D, B12, and iron levels checked — any deficiency can affect weight and conception.
Next Steps
I recommend you schedule a personalized diet consultation to assess your calorie needs and create a fertility-supportive weight gain plan. Also, consult your gynecologist to rule out hormonal or thyroid-related issues that may be affecting weight gain and conception.

Hi Please check your thyroid, and other basic blood parameters, to rule out any other issues. If everything is good, focus on increasing your calories slowly to support weight gain.
