Vitamin B12 Level – Advice on Diet and S

2026-11-05 12:16:00
Doctor, six months ago, my Vitamin B12 level was 147 pg/mL. After taking six Methylcobalamin injections, my Vitamin B12 level has increased to 283 pg/mL. If I drink 200 ml of warm milk every day, will it help increase my Vitamin B12 level to 300 pg/mL or above? Is drinking 200 ml of milk daily sufficient to maintain and improve my Vitamin B12 levels, or do I need any further supplementation or treatment? Please guide me.

Drinking milk alone is unlikely to increase the vitamin b 12 level.Eggs ,non vegetarian food are good sources. You can take cyanocobalamin 500 mcg daily for a few months as well.

Milk alone will not help in improving vitamin b12 levels.  Take more of fortified cereals,  nuts, berries,  curds, cheese, eggs, fish. Repeat test after 1 month, if levels still not optimal, start oral supplements.

Vit B12 is an animal driven vitamin which we get by animal products including milk or dairy products and non vegetarian things like chicken mutton fish or even eggs. If you eat non vegetarian food then having an egg and chicken will do fine but if you're pure vegetarian having Cow milk and dairy products of that will suffice (not cause over the range Vit B12) but if you are pure vegan then multivitamins or exclusive cobalamin capsules will be good.

Going from 147 to 283 after your injections is real progress, but a daily glass of warm milk is unlikely to reliably push it past 300 on its own, since milk's B12 content is modest and absorption depends on more than intake alone.
Next Steps
Keep other B12 sources like eggs, fish and dairy in your diet, and check with your doctor whether a maintenance tablet makes sense at this stage.
Health Tips
A repeat blood test in a few months will tell you if diet alone is enough, so don't skip that follow-up.
