UTI issue - how to fix

2026-07-23 13:41:07
I am having unbearable burning sensation during urination since one day. It started with slight uneasyness a few days ago. Also have darker yellow colour pee. Several years ago when I had UTI, a physician prescribed Urifast. Can I take the same medicine again? If so, what dose and how many days? Or Could it be solved just by having cooling stuff like curd, because I think it might have happened just bcz of heat.

Since you have a one day history,  the most likely cause can be dehydration. Don't start any medication right now. First get urine RE & CS and based on the report the doctor will prescribe medicine if required.
Next Steps
Drink 3L water today and tomorrow. If possible add lemon juice to it because it helps alkalinize the urine reducing burning sensation. Avoid Tea, coffee and alcohol.
Health Tips
If symptoms persist for more than 3 days, immediately consult the doctor.

The symptoms you describe, burning during urination, discomfort for a few days, and dark yellow urine should not be attributed to "body heat" alone. While dehydration can make urine darker and occasionally cause mild discomfort, severe burning during urination warrants evaluation to rule out a urinary tract infection (UTI) or other urinary conditions. Since you have had a UTI in the past, this could also represent a recurrent UTI. I would not advise taking Urifast or any previously prescribed medication without a medical evaluation, as the cause of your symptoms may be different this time. Self-medication can delay the correct diagnosis and may not be effective if the bacteria are resistant to the earlier treatment.
Next Steps
Consult Doctor at the earliest. Get a urine routine examination and culture before starting antibiotics. If a UTI is suspected, especially if this is a recurrent episode—a urine culture and sensitivity may also be advised before starting antibiotics. Drink adequate water to stay well hydrated. Avoid delaying medical consultation by relying only on home remedies such as curd or other "cooling" foods. While these may be part of a healthy diet, they do not treat a UTI.
Health Tips
Seek immediate medical attention if you develop fever, chills, vomiting, pain in the back/flank, blood in the urine or if the burning becomes progressively worse.

In a UTI, patients often experience symptoms such as fever, chills, back pain, burning while passing urine, and dark-colored urine. However, if you only have burning during urination and dark-colored urine, it does not necessarily mean you have a UTI. Dehydration can also cause these symptoms. Please increase your fluid intake. You can take plenty of water and other fluids such as coconut water, lemon water, buttermilk, and watermelon. If your symptoms persist until tomorrow, you may take Cital syrup for symptomatic relief. Also, get a Urine Routine & Microscopy (Urine R/M) test done, as it is important for confirming the diagnosis and guiding further treatment.
Next Steps
urine R/M test
Health Tips
increase fluid intake

Likely causesMost common are UTI or dehydration/heat in summer. Your symptoms Burning, dark yellow pee, and uneasiness point to both. First step Drink 2.5-3L water today. It dilutes urine and reduces burning. Cooling foods help Curd, chaas, coconut water, barley water can soothe irritation. Avoid  Tea, coffee, spicy food, and citrus - they increase burning. About UrifastIt only relieves burning. It does NOT treat infection. Don’t self-medicate Don’t reuse old prescriptions without a doctor’s check. Test needed Urine R/M + Culture is needed to know if antibiotics are required. See doctor if Pain is "unbearable", >2 days, or you get fever/back pain. Bottom line Start water + curd now, but get checked today to rule out UTI. Consult with doctor
