TSH level-7.8 T3,T4 under normal Range

2022-01-11 06:25:25
I recently had a full body checkup and came to know that TSH levels were elevated beyond the normal range at 7.8. My doctor has prescribed a thyroid pill to be taken early morning for next 3 months. Do I need to take this thyroid medicine for rest of my life since I read that these pills only manage thyroid levels.

Continue taking medication as per your doctor advise. Normal TSH needs to be below 1. And after 3 months your reports will decide your further dose and treatment. Thyroid or any other hormonal issue takes time to show improvement, atleast 1-3 months. These pills are the safest ones without any side effects, even pregnant females take these if she has thyroid issues. So don't worry even if you have to take them lifelong which I hope you don't need to. Me myself a case of hypothyroid since the age of 12 I can say, it does not impact normal life in any way. So don't worry about them. From my experience of working in endocrine centers for last 2 years, I can suggest you some healthy daily life style and diet for your thyroid issue which even I adopt in my life. Consult me here on practo for further suggestions and help.
