The combination of leg swelling and a persistent dry cough with yellow mucus in a 69-year-old is a combination that needs urgent evaluation. Leg swelling with cough can be a sign of heart failure (where the heart is not pumping efficiently, causing fluid to accumulate in the legs and lungs), or it could be a respiratory infection alongside venous insufficiency. At 69, this should not be left without a proper clinical examination and ECG.
Next Steps
Please see a doctor in person urgently — get an ECG, chest X-ray, and basic blood tests done. Feel free to consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation as well.

Essential evaluation: BP, SpO₂ Chest X-ray ECG ± Echo Kidney function test (RFT), LFT CBC Symptomatic care (till evaluation): Keep legs elevated while resting Reduce excess salt intake Steam inhalation for cough Adequate hydration Medications: Avoid self-starting diuretics or cough syrups without diagnosis Antibiotics only if infection confirmed Bottom line: This is not a simple cough + swelling case—needs systemic evaluation to rule out heart or kidney involvement. Do consult for proper evaluation
Health Tips
Red flags (urgent review needed): Breathlessness / orthopnea Rapid increase in leg swelling Chest discomfort or fatigue
