Indications for surgery in disc bulge are 1.Persistent disabling low back pain for 6 or more weeks despite medications and physiotherapy. 2.progressive weakness of muscles of leg which is significant 3. Bladder and bowel symptoms which means    Unable to control urine etc.. If u don't have any of the following above no need of surgery.
Next Steps
get checked and get proper treatment decide for surgery later.

First of all need to see the MRI films. Most patients have a successful outcome post surgery. Discuss with your operating surgeon .
