Single kidney & creatine monohydrate

2025-10-21 06:12:42
I am a 43-year-old male, 5'11" and 80kg, with a single kidney by birth. I am healthy, with no history of diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. I currently work out regularly and consume 70-80g of protein daily. Considering my single kidney, would it be safe for me to take a minimum dose of creatine monohydrate to support muscle building and workout performance?

You are enjoying good health. Why do you want to experiment on yourself by going into unknown territory? No straight forward answer to your question will come because we may not have another person to compare. My suggestion is to enjoy your life as long as you can. Leave the experiments to the Research Scholars.

Hi, As long you have normally functioning kidneys you can take creatine supplements. But you need to hydrate yourself well and not overdose on the same. Does of 5-20 grams per day for athletes are safe with a water intake of 3-4 litres per day. However be careful with your choice of supplements. A lot of brands have added anabolic steroids in them. Local brands have heavy metal contamination in them. We often see patients coming with renal diseases owing to this. Take care

Creatine increases clearance workload on kidneys. Given the condition, avoid putting extra stress on kidney for no additional health benefits.
