A vital healthy tooth is like a moist wooden log. It won't break because it has blood supply and moisture. An infected tooth after Root canal treatment is like a dry wooden log. It has lost blood supply and moisture. Hence, it can fracture due to brittleness. To avoid fracture, a cap is placed on the tooth crown to protect it from direct compressive or tensile forces. Also, over a period of time, the tooth will start getting discolored. Hence, you definitely need a cap! Got for it! All the best!

You should get your cap done as early as possible as tooth becomes brittle after root canal and it may break in chewing later it might be difficult to save, so better to have it first before any complication arise.
