It is difficult to assess the epididymis by a non medical practioner even more difficult on yourself. Although it maybe so considering your discomfort. Kindly get a ultrasound of your testes done and meet with your local physician.

To see the cause of swelling and pain in your testes get a scrotal ultrasound scan and urine analysis. It could be managed accordingly.

If you can feel a swelling just above the testicles, then It can be Epididimo orchitis... If you feel many thick coiling then you have to rule out scrotal varicocele. However the next step you have to do is Scrotal USG... it gives a radiological diagnosis that correlate to clinical diagnosis. Also it rules out possibilities of hydrocele and torsion. If it is epididimo orchitis then it should get settled in medications for a week time. Epididimo orchitis can relapse after months, and that requires repeating the medicines again. You have to take antibiotics for the whole 5 to 7 days though the pain gets settled by one or two days of medicines. Please consult for medications
