Panic attack!!

2024-07-23 18:18:27
Hi, I experienced a panic attack yesterday and had to go to the emergency room at 1 at midnight. Initially it really felt like a heart attack : rapid heartbeat, sweating, intense panic, some numbness in arm and legs, hyperventilation. The doctors at the hospital did a TROP-1 , ABG, and ECG and all of them came back normal. My BP was a little increased when I reached there plus the heartbeat was at 110 bpm. I think I had some issues of anxiety and overthinking before but I thought it was just a phase. But the panic attack yesterday was really scary! Can attacks like these reoccur? What can be done to avoid them? Also I was experiencing constipation for the last few days if that has any connection whatsoever. 27(M), 83kgs, 172 cm, former smoker.

Panic attacks are very common like this and as you described, feelings of impending doom are also very much synonymous with such panic attacks. Try doing meditation and do something you love doing at least for 20 mins per day. Having said that, avoid too much screen time and eating oily and calorie rich foods. Try to exercise 30 mins per day. Your weight seems to be a little on the higher side. High levels of circulating glucose in blood can also lead to such incidents.
Next Steps
Consult a general physician such as myself, because this might repeat again. We might have to run a few blood tests and routine investigations.
Health Tips
Strictly avoid eating calorie rich meals and inculcate exercise and screen- free time in your daily routine.

Panic attacks can reoccur. You have to adapt mindfulness, rest and sleep adequately, avoid overthinking and practice meditation.l and deep breathing excercises. Don't stress over things which can't be controlled. Be kind and gentle, let things flow accordingly. Have patience and think positive. It's not related to constipation. Opinion: Panic attacks can be extremely frightening and often mimic heart attack symptoms. Since your medical tests came back normal, it’s likely that your symptoms were due to anxiety. Panic attacks can reoccur, especially if underlying anxiety is not addressed. Next steps: 1. **Consultation:** Schedule an appointment with me, online or offline, to discuss your anxiety and possible treatment options, including therapy and medication. 2. **Lifestyle Modifications:** - Practice stress management techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga. - Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety. - Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can exacerbate anxiety symptoms. 3. **Diet and Hydration:** Address constipation by increasing your fiber intake and staying well-hydrated. 4. **Follow-Up:** Regular follow-ups to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed. Please book an appointment with me for a comprehensive evaluation and to develop an effective strategy to manage and prevent future panic attacks. Your mental and physical well-being are my top priorities.
