Pain while breathing

2026-07-15 07:12:06
For the past two days, I have been experiencing upper left-sided pain when taking a deep breath, which causes shortness of breath and radiates to my left shoulder. The pain becomes significantly worse at night and improves in the morning. Additionally, I am experiencing ongoing gastric issues: my stool is discolored, always floats, and sometimes has visible particles in it (I suspect worms). I also have acne. Given this combination of severe nighttime breathing/shoulder pain and digestive issues, is this an emergency, and should I consult a General Physician or a Gastroenterologist first?

You need to visit the Physician first he might help you in all of your symptoms and if needed he will refer you to a cardiologist.

Health Tips
Please visit a doctor. NB feel free to contact me or any physician nearby.

Get an angiography done. ECG, chest xray, and ECHO may be normal in angina pectoris.
Next Steps
Consult a cardiologist.

Any left sided chest pain radiating to shoulder should always rule out cardiac causes, as you also have breathlessness. Get an ECG at first place. Pain worsening at position change can be either pericardial effusion ( fluid around heart). Needs to rule out that. Later you can address gastric issues. All your symptoms can even come from acute gastritis as well. But most dangerous problems needs to be ruled out 1st.

Left-sided pain with breathing that radiates to the shoulder needs urgent evaluation to rule out lung or splenic causes - this isn't something to wait on with just gastro symptoms alongside. See a general physician or ER first for urgent chest evaluation (X-ray) since breathing-related pain takes priority; the stool/parasite concern can follow after. Book a private consult if it turns out non-urgent, so I can guide the digestive workup separately.
