Do knee exercises. Make your thigh muscles strong. Gradual return to usual activities  is the dictum.

The knee needs to be examined for instability. If your knee feels stable enough, you can start slow jogging and see how it goes. Presence of pain might be an indicator of meniscus or cartilage injury- need to see the films/ report to confirm. If you feel instability and pain, get a consultation for further management.

Can start anytime. If instability or pain does not let you do that, then go for surgery.
