Your symptoms—white area on the gum, severe pain spreading to your throat and ear—could be caused by a dental infection, such as an abscess, or possibly a severe gum or throat infection. Tooth or gum infections can cause pain that radiates to the throat and ear because the nerves and tissues in these areas are closely connected. White spots on the gums may be due to canker sores, oral thrush, or other conditions, but if pain is severe and spreading, infection is likely. Warning Signs to Seek Immediate Care: • Severe, spreading pain • Difficulty swallowing or breathing • Swelling in your face, throat, or neck • Fever or feeling very unwell
